Craig and Mika Stirling
Your hosts Craig and Mika are passionate skiers who live in the Ruapehu district to be close to the skiing industry. Craig is fanatic skier and sailor who manages his ski manufacturing business with his eldest son in Ruapehu, and will likely be racing you up the hill to get first chair each morning throughout the winter.
Mika is a chef by trade and will be taking care of you during your stay at the Old Courthouse. Her love for cooking and hospitality has inspired her to start a B&B by the mountain and she will ensure your stay is comfortable and enjoyable.
The Historic Old Courthouse built in 1920 is rich with historical character and filled with many reminders of its once important role in the village.
The expansive downstairs living area was once the actual courtroom and is now a wonderful gathering place. It’s an enormous space, but it’s kept cosy by the retention and restoration of native timber, plus an ultra-efficient wood-burner that’s connected to huge cast-iron radiators throughout the house. The original Judges bench remains in place as the kitchen bench as a constant reminder of the buildings original purpose.
Located only a 10 minutes drive from the base of the mountain/Ohakune and 30 minutes from National park, Raetihi is the perfect place to stay for a variety of year round activities including skiing, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, road cycling, kayaking, and golf.
